Character description

Ramu runs Larder & Leather at the edge of merchant row in Seven Mile Bottom. The bark smell clings to him as firmly as his booming laugh, and his workshop is as loud as his voice. Hides, straps, and stitched goods hang from every beam, evidence of his speed and certainty.

He leans brave with strength (4), never flinching from harsh work or risky tasks. But this boldness joins with impulsiveness pushed too far (5). He rushes decisions, splashes bark-tubs too quickly, or drives a deal before it is ready. His energy is infectious, but mistakes follow in his wake.

Ramu is also too confident (5). He trusts his own judgment absolutely, brushing off doubt and ignoring careful voices. This confidence draws people to him, but it can sour when he refuses to admit error.

In contrast, his contentment (2) gives him grounding. He finds satisfaction in simple victories — a fine hide tanned, a meal shared, a busy day’s work. This strength steadies him briefly, though it cannot always contain his restless drive.

Elsewhere, he balances. He works well with others but is not dependent (3 in independence). He shares openly without spilling secrets (3 in openness). He is kind or blunt depending on the moment (3). His practicality is even, neither rigid nor careless (3). He can treat tasks seriously or laugh at his own mistakes (3). Rules matter enough to keep order, but not enough to bind him (3).

Ramu is the loud heart of Seven Mile Bottom’s merchant row. His hides are cured fast, his tongue faster, and while his confidence keeps the village supplied, it sometimes costs more than leather to mend.

Speech patterns

  • Loud, declarative sentences; little subtlety.
  • Favors direct boasts (“no one works faster than me,” “I’ll have it done before sundown”).
  • Draws imagery from leatherwork, toughness, and labor (“stretched thin,” “hardened under pressure”).
  • Rarely reflective; speech is about the moment, not the long view.

Communication patterns

  • Talks first, thinks second; blurts out opinions without hesitation.
  • Dominates group conversations, often steering them by sheer volume.
  • Prefers certainty over nuance — declares rather than debates.
  • Builds camaraderie with laughter and bold promises, though reliability may falter.

Emotes

  • Slaps his hand on a table or knee for emphasis.
  • Throws his head back in laughter, loud enough for half the row to hear.
  • Gestures broadly, often pointing or chopping the air.
  • Wipes his forearms with a rag while talking, as if work and speech are one act.
