Learning Journey

Does The Hundred adapt to different learning levels?

The game is designed for everyone — children, teens, and adults of any age. At the start, you can choose from four entry levels that roughly match different reading ages, so even young readers can begin confidently. From there, the game adapts automatically using spaced repetition and our unique “Hundred” algorithm. This means it continuously adjusts the questions, timing, and story to each player’s level of knowledge and memory. Families often tell us that siblings of different ages — and even parents — enjoy playing, each at their own level. Many older players also use the game to keep their minds sharp and their cognitive skills active. For homeschoolers, this takes the pressure off choosing the ‘right grade’ or difficulty level — the game keeps finding the best fit automatically. You can read more about how this adaptive approach works in our Mind Vault section.

Which subjects are covered?

The Hundred spans a broad range of core subjects valued in homeschool and beyond — including science, history, geography, literature, art, and more. Each quest is built around 100 essential facts, carefully selected with teachers to loosely align with widely used curricula, while also prioritizing curiosity, deeper understanding, and critical thinking. Find out more about our quests.

Does the content align with standard curricula?

We align loosely, but not narrowly. Many traditional curricula are overloaded and restrictive, with too much focus on rote memorization and test prep (OECD, 2020; Suitable Education, 2020). Research in the US shows that by middle school many teachers already de-emphasize critical thinking in favour of standardized testing (Bouygues, 2022). The Hundred flips the focus: we’re about the how rather than just the what, training players to build strong cognitive schemas and practise reasoning, comparison, and problem solving. Once these schemas are in place, they act as a scaffold — making future learning faster, deeper, and easier.

How does The Hundred make learning engaging?

Traditional learning can feel dry and repetitive. The Hundred transforms it into an immersive adventure. Players step into a magical, story-driven world where knowledge is discovered through quests and challenges. With varied interactive formats — from quick-fire quizzes to puzzle-like tasks such as mark me, spin me, or order me — learning feels playful, memorable, and even fun. Many players find they are deeply engaged in the game without realizing how much they’re learning along the way.
