Trees and smaller plants

In the scorching expanse of the Sonora Desert, only the resilient Kavari palm trees and their hardy shrub cousins endure. With broad, waxy leaves that shimmer like polished stone, they seal in precious moisture beneath the relentless sun. Their roots twist deep into the sand, tapping ancient underground veins of water and drawing up scarce nutrients. Over centuries, the Kavari have transformed the desert around them—stabilizing the sandy soil, and offering rare shade and sustenance to the creatures that call this harsh land home.
